What you'll learn

Understand the basic components of a computer system, including CPU, input and output devices, and different types of memory such as RAM, ROM, and hard disk.
Differentiate between hardware and software and explain their roles in the functioning of a computer system.

About This Course

The Basic Computer Course provides a comprehensive introduction to computer technology and essential digital skills required in modern academic, professional, and personal environments. This course is designed for beginners who want to gain confidence in using computers and digital tools effectively. The course begins with an introduction to computer fundamentals, where learners will understand the basic components of a computer system including the CPU, input devices (keyboard and mouse), output devices (monitor), and different types of memory such as RAM, ROM, and hard disk. Students will also learn the difference between hardware and software and how they work together in a computer system. The program then introduces learners to a Graphical User Interface (GUI)-based operating system, focusing on Windows fundamentals. Students will learn how to navigate the desktop environment, manage icons, use the taskbar, and operate menu-based systems. Practical skills such as creating, renaming, copying, and organizing files and folders will also be covered. Basic system settings like adjusting date and time, display settings, and installing printers will help students understand system configuration. The course includes training in the Microsoft Office Suite, enabling learners to use productivity tools widely used in workplaces. In MS Word, students will learn document creation, editing, formatting, tables, printing, and Mail Merge. In MS Excel, learners will work with spreadsheets, rows and columns, apply basic formulas and functions, create charts, and perform sorting and filtering of data. In MS PowerPoint, students will develop skills to create presentations, add slides, incorporate animations, and run slideshows. Another important component of the course is Internet and Email usage, where students will learn how to browse the web using browsers such as Chrome or Firefox, use search engines effectively, and access online information. Learners will also gain practical knowledge of creating, sending, and managing emails, along with understanding email etiquette and responsible communication. The course also emphasizes online security, including password safety, antivirus awareness, and identifying phishing or fraudulent online activities. The course further develops practical computer skills, including English typing practice to improve typing speed and accuracy, and basic hardware setup skills, such as connecting input and output devices to a computer system.
